Shinsetsu Mahou Shoujo Second Partial English Fan-TL (Chapter 1 to 27)

Hey there, after one more month of work by me and the editor, u/ticonderoga67, today we bring you the second partial translation for Shinsetsu Mahou Shoujo into English, which covers up to chapter 27.

Is there anyone among you who read up to chapter 15, the last one translated for the first partial? What do you think about the story so far?

Here are the links to Tyconderoga's blog and a direct DOWNLOAD link.

For those who missed the first english post, Shinmahosho is a VN/SRPG hybrid. I already explained what kind of story it is in the post I made for the first partial, so I'm devoting this one to give you some tips about the gameplay part that I didn't get to put in the first post, so as not to make it too long.

Gameplay part: (I'll be adding the tips from the previous blogger post too)

The gameplay portions consists on a turn-based SRPG style combat gameplay, with two diffilculty modes ("Novel" and "Real").

The whole thing is balanced around "Real" difficulty, making the other one so easy that, in my opinion, it can hurt immersion.

I have a general tip for combats: Don't always wait for the enemy to come at you, but also don't advance so far that a unit with mediocre defenses ends up in the attack range of several enemies at once.

Following the "divide and conquer" approach, the map design encourages you to lure enemies using defensive characters and kill them with other units on your turn, and then move forward again with the defensive ones to lure the next enemies. Chiyoko is a very good High PS-type Tank for most of the game. Since her defensive values are very low, enemies will attack her whenever they can, making her a perfect decoy (receiving hits for covering others is also very fitting for her, character-wise).

Making the enemies start in separate groups that end up coming together if you allow it, the appearance of entities that generate new enemies, the total absence of permadeath and the limit of turns per combat imposed in the second half of the story are also ways to encourage you to go on the offensive.

MP management becomes critical once you reach a certain point in the story, as there will be enemies that can only be defeated with “penetration” skills, wich have a high MP cost, render the unit that used it useless for 1 to 3 turns, and can only be used by a few units (to avoid spoilers the image doesn't show any penetration skill, is an example of low-medium MP cost skills).

The game offers very few ways to restore MP, forcing you, the player, to use your weaker units to defeat most of the not so strong enemies. You should use all of your units to their maximun capacity in each combat, instead of charging      head-on only with the best ones.

(Recovering 3 MP per 3 turns = 9 MP. That's very little at mid-game, and the items are expensive if you take into account that progressing in the story is the only way you'll have to earn credits until the post-game)

Taking advantage of elemental weaknesses and AI patterns is crucial to beat the most difficult maps.

Edit: I will add an extra tip I forgot when I wrote this post, don't underestimate equipment items. Dealing only one or two extra damage may not seem like much, but the extra STR/ESP can make all the difference. I've lost count of how many enemies have survived with one single HP during my several playthroughs.

That said, take into account that the "Fighting Equipment" will decrease ESP to increase STR, while the "Brain assistant" will decrease STR to increase ESP. Equip them accordingly to units that are focused on physicall (uses STR) or special (uses ESP) attacks

There's also the MOV + 1 from the Harmonizer, wich comes in very handy for units with low MOV. You can only equip one item per unit so it'll be a matter of choosing between extra MOV or extra damage.

I'm translating this VN/SRPG as a hobby, and because I would like to have fellow readers to talk about it with. So, I would appreciate any comments. If you don't want to create a Blogger account just to comment, you can do it at this  Twitter account or this reddit account.
